{Review}: Pots & Co’s Lava Cakes

Jun 30 by Anita 2 Comments

Pots and Co Lava Cakes Flatlay

Usually I have so many sweets I’ve made sitting around the house, that it’s hard to justify buying more from the store, but I’m making an enthusiastic exception for Pots & Co‘s lava cakes. These delightful, very delicious handmade lava cakes need only a few minutes in your microwave or oven to heat up into an instant indulgence.

(Disclaimer: I received samples of Pots & Co’s lava cakes for review from the company. I was not compensated for this review and all opinions are my own.)

Pots & Co is a London based dessert company specializing in what I call “desserts in jars”. They make their lava cakes from ethically grown Columbian cocoa, with no artificial ingredients or preservatives. They keep perfectly in the freezer until you’re ready to make them. They have an impressive lineup of flavors, from salted caramel to sticky toffee to pure chocolate fudge, and they’re always coming out with new flavors as well.

Pots and Co Lava Cakes Sticky Toffee

I tried out their sticky toffee, which features a sticky date sponge cake with a center of butterscotch, and the chocolate fudge, which is a chocoholic’s dream: rich chocolate cake with a fudgy center. For both cakes, they come in sleek looking ceramic ramekins. After a brief heating in the microwave or oven, the cakes are warm and soft, and the centers gloriously molten. Although they look individual sized, the cakes are definitely rich enough to be shared. The chocolate fudge, especially is pure chocolate intensity – I admit I might have had a hard time sharing that one!

I didn’t mention one of my favorite parts of Pots & Co – the ceramic ramekins are hand made by a family of potters in Valencia, Spain, and although you can recycle them, they’re definitely meant to be kept and re-used. You can use them to store odds and ends, as serving dishes, or even bake with them.I really appreciate this sustainable aspect of Pots & Co. I love the size and their beautiful colors of the ramekins, and they’ll probably end up making a re-appearance as props in my shoots as well.  I may have to end up trying all their flavors to get all the dish colors! So not only do you get dessert, but an addition to your homeware collection.

Pots & Co lava cakes can be found in Whole Foods markets across Northern California. Thanks Pots & Co for introducing me to your wonderful line of desserts!
