Happy Year of the Snake! I know this looks like a Valentine’s themed post, but I thought I’d deliver the Chinese New Year greeting first. The first day of the year of the snake was on Sunday the 10th, meaning there was very little time to recover from the New Year dinner gluttony before Valentine’s Day came around. If you recall, I had doubts about making my Valentine’s dessert idea come to fruition, but yes! it happened. I must be riding some good new-mother karma still…

A Valentine from Me and Driscoll’s

Three weeks into motherhood and I’ve noticed how time has taken on a particularly elastic quality. I spend literally the entire day at home: I’ll go through several rinse-and-repeat cycles of feeding, changing, and lulling baby to sleep, and yet somehow it’s always a surprise to look outside and see the sky darkening already. Has she already fed that many times today? What did I have for lunch? Did I even eat lunch? Is that a half-written e-mail on my computer from this morning? Or was it from yesterday? What day is it, anyway? (Very fitting that Groundhog Day was a few days ago, as that’s how I feel these days!)

Happy Valentine’s Day! This dessert is a little brainstorm I got last weekend when I realized it was three days from Valentine’s Day and I hadn’t thought of anything to make yet. I wanted to take a classic V-day dessert and give it a little modern spin. Molten chocolate cakes came to mind…perennial lurkers on Valentine’s “romantic” menus.
