It’s our third Valentine’s Day as parents. (I almost wrote second but I did some counting back and corrected myself – parenthood does a number on your math skills and sense of time!) We should be experienced hands at juggling life and baby and dog and us, right? Sort of? We did remember to make dinner reservations in time this year instead of making a panicked realization a week before to look up what places still had tables open. And I finished all of Isabelle’s valentines for daycare a week in advance, so I almost feel like I’m winning at being organized, for this brief blissful moment.

I have a newfound appreciation for the pleasure a beautifully designed product can elicit, whether I'm using it or just admiring its craftsmanship.

When I was asked to pick which Alessi pieces I would like to work with, I faced an overwhelming catalog of riches to choose from. Alessi has over 90 years of history and has objects in every size, in a myriad of materials from steel to porcelain. Although I would have loved to try my hand at some of their most iconic pieces, I focused on some more unique pieces that both reflected the summer theme and also spoke to my personal sensibility.

Hello! I'm excited to announce a collaboration between Dessert First and Alessi for the month of May: four recipes by me, photographed in some of Alessi's beautiful and distinctive pieces.

This partnership came about a couple months when I was invited to preview some of Alessi's newest pieces for spring and summer. I've long been a fan of Alessi's designs, which range from playful and whimsical to elegant and timeless. 

After expressing my long-standing enthusiasm for Alessi's products, I was thrilled when the company asked if I'd like to pick out several items and feature them in my posts. Alessi has a long history of creative collaboration with not just designers but other creative artists. While they have commissioned recipes to go with their products, they don't have many dessert recipes. I was happy to step up and help fill in that gap.
